Welcome stations for libraries open to the public

Good morning! This question is for any library that has already reopened to the public, or is planning to soon: Do you have a "welcome" station for patrons when they first arrive in which they can get a rundown of new procedures, be provided a mask if they need one, etc.? If so, could you share a photo with me or provide a description of what it will be like? Thanks in advance! Emily -- Emily M. Dumas Library Director Royal Oak Public Library 248.246.3710

We added a podium and a stool to our entry way. We have handmade masks available for those who do not have one and we placed them on the entry way bench because it is handy. There is a large sign outside the front door indicating the new rules. We have provided staff with a mask, and a face shield. Each person entering is greeted by a staff member behind the podium. Each person who is not wearing a mask is asked to either produce one or take one of ours before entering. Each person entering or leaving is counted (small manual keychain counter) so that we maintain the total number of patrons in the building. So it's a simple operation. Podium, staff member, masks, counter. We also have hand sanitizer and wipes for the staff member to prepare the station for the next person. We have provided staff with a mask and a face shield. In our lobby. Our security guard waits to direct patrons to where they need to go, provides masks and sanitizer, and the tax forms are right there. On Fri, Jul 10, 2020, 10:21 AM Kelli Perkins via Michlib-l < michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:

The first week we were opened, we had a small desk with a laptop next to this station. A staff member sat at that desk to welcome everyone in and explain our new protocol. We really felt it was helpful - mostly for the staff who was very nervous about the public coming back in. Now we just have the station up and the circulation staff - which people have to walk by to get into the library proper - monitoring and explaining the new protocol to people. \ [cid:image003.jpg@01D656BE.399995F0] ________________________________ From: Michlib-l [michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org] on behalf of Emily Dumas via Michlib-l [michlib-l@mcls.org] Sent: Friday, July 10, 2020 9:40 AM To: michlib-l@mcls.org Subject: [Michlib-l] Welcome stations for libraries open to the public Good morning! Hello, Emily! We started using a welcome station but are using it for display in the front lobby to block the stairs going to our closed second and third floors right now. We discontinued using it due to very low on-site visits. As we see more visits, we'll return to using it. One of our staff created a Charlie Brown-inspired information booth that we attached to an old bookcart. We also have a lobby display on masks which includes that we are requiring face covers by library policy. We also have a display of free fabric masks and earsavers made by staff or the community that we are distributing. I've attached photos of these below.
