Hi all my fellow librarians, So we are in the process of planning our fall newsletter, and in need of some ideas. Take home crafts are still in the works, but I was hoping for some ideas that were not craft related. Was thinking about handing out some new solitaire card instructions, maybe an elf on the shelf for adults where they could post pictures on our facebook. A virtual book club did not work well here. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all. -- Diane Willick Adult Services Coordinator Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library 211 N. Almont Ave Imlay City, MI 484440 810-724-8043 ext.202

Diane, I did a DIY Succulent Planter Take & Make Kit for Teens and Adults at the end of June that was a huge success. I started with 15 kits and had at least that many on the wait list right away. I was able to get more plants and all of the rest of the supplies and ended up making 40 kits and all were picked up! Supplies were purchased from Dollar Tree and Lowes. I purchased the succulents from Kroger for $1 each, which is a bargain. I think these succulents are still available at Kroger as long as they have plants outside, which is where they were at the Kroger stores in the Detroit Metro area. Total cost of the kits were approximately $5 per kit, one kit per person. I can send my instructions for the kits and the amounts for each supply item included in the kit, if anyone is interested. Earlier this year I gave out spice blends and recipes and encouraged people to send us pictures of the food they made with the spices. I gave out a garam marsala blend and a shawarma blend. The recipes were all from library-owned cookbooks too. The blends were big hits. I'm wondering if anyone has done a book folding project? Maybe as a Take & Make or as an in-person event? I'd like to do something kind of simple? I can find lots of pictures of these projects but not as many "free" instructions that aren't too involved. I know that there are presenters that teach this type of craft but if I remember correctly they were kind of pricey and those were prices from a couple of years ago. Thanks in advance. I also found this book folding pattern generator. The picture has to be simple for the pattern to be generated. Clip art works well. I haven't found available patterns because I found the generator first and went with that. It works. https://vektorrascheln.de/bookart/ Irene Berrien Springs Community Library 215 W. I didn't do this as a program, i just made one for the desk but it was very easy to follow the instructions and there's a link to the head you can print out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9ECMkDdJ_M&t=0s On Wed, Jul 28, 2021 at 3:23 PM Tina Russette via Michlib-l < michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:

Hi Diane, Back before I was director, Seville Township Library had a Puzzles and Parley talk where people could just come in, put some puzzles together and chat. It was in the before times, so I assume there were some days when snacks were provided. It's not much! But it's not a craft kit and it gives people a chance to sit and chat!
