The original *Jim Brady’s **Detroit *opened in 1954 by Tom’s father, Jim. Mary expressed, “As a chef, I am most proud of earning my Certified Executive Chef designation by the American Culinary Federation (ACF). This became career changing for me. At the time, I was only the second female in the state of Michigan to achieve this, and one of a few dozen world-wide. An incredible accomplishment for me. Mentoring other women has been a priority through the years.” She added, “American chef Julia Child, whom I had the pleasure of meeting, was an inspiration from the beginning. She taught French cooking in an approachable style for the skilled, and home chefs, alike.” Mary has been a formidable figure in the Detroit restaurant scene and a staunch advocate of Michigan’s hospitality industry. In the fall of 2022, she sold the Novi Bistro to explore further culinary endeavors and begin new life adventures, including the authoring of her first cookbook, “Looking Back Cooking Forward.” It is a source of pride that the cookbook is entirely Made in Michigan. It’s loaded with easily prepared recipes – each accompanied by a beautiful color photo of every recipe and a story. All of the book’s photography was shot in Mary’s kitchen and grounds, and the book was printed in Michigan. Thus far, books are being sold through chefmarybrady.com and at Mary’s personal appearances and cooking classes.
