Incident at the Kalamazoo library

I was very sorry to read that the Kalamazoo Public Library's summer reading party was disrupted by an individual who felt the need to bring his gun to the party. Kudos to Ann Rohrbaugh and her staff for handling a difficult situation well. http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2014/06/man_with_gun_at_kalama... -- Jessica Keyser, Director Ferndale Public Library 222 East Nine Mile Road Ferndale, MI 48220 (248) 547-6000 (248) 545-5840 fax jkeyser@ferndalepubliclibrary.org

Hmmm! It is really sad. Glad to know that the situation was under control. Uma Ravishankar Reference Librarian Hazel Park Memorial Library

http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2014/06/man_with_gun_at_kalama... Really? Sorry in advance for poking the bear here but I am too irritated not to respond. I echo the sentiments to the staff. Good job for handling an awkward situation calmly. .......................................................................................................................... "They made him so uncomfortable that he had to leave?" Harris said. "I think that's awful. The library owes him an apology." If people were uncomfortable by seeing a man with a gun, that's their problem, he said. "Unfortunately for them, nothing in the law says they have the right to be comfortable." ........................................................................................................................... The library should apologize to this patron for making him feel so uncomfortable that he left? By this logic, if the patron decided he was comfortable enough to stay, he then has to apologize to every family attending the event who decided to leave since they were made to feel uncomfortable. I'd relish seeing that played out.
