We need some quick arguments for why to or not to offer wifi 24 hours. Unfortunately, the city has had problems with teens congregating outside at night, using our wifi, and causing other mayhem, including vandalism. I hate to blame the teens, but unfortunately, in this case, that is who it is. The city and library board has asked me to investigate what other libraries, especially small libraries, do. Thank you. Hi Jennifer-- Our wifi is on 24/7 at all of our locations: one small city, five villages and one at a corner across from a gas station on old M-21. No issues anywhere as far as we know. Our IT guy says that some peak usage occurs between 10 pm and 2 am. I like that. melissa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jennifer Walters" <aitkinlibrary@sbcglobal.net> To: "Michlib" <Michlib-l@mcls.org> Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2014 2:23:20 PM Subject: [Michlib-l] Do you offer wifi outside library after hours? Hello Jennifer, Our wifi is on 24/7. It is password protected so only those patrons already knowing it can use it when we’re closed. We are a class II library in a small village. We have not had any problems. Kay Hurd Director Almont District Library 213 W. Hi Jennifer! We have the same situation at the Reed City Area District Library as Kay indicated for the Almont District Library. We have WiFi 24/7 with a password that users must know. We have people that use from their cars, but have not had problems. We are Class 3 library in a smaller town. Heather Symon, Director Reed City Area District Library 410 W.
