Deadline to register for February 17 Make Your Own GIS Map workshop

It is your last chance to register for the Make Your Own Map: Exploring Geographic Information Science (GIS) for Librarians workshop that will be held online on Tuesday, February 17, from 2 - 4 PM. The deadline to register is Wednesday, February 11. With the escalation of online GIS mapping applications (demographic and business databases for example), it is becoming increasingly important for librarians to understand and be proficient with these tools to best serve our patrons and conduct research. Learn several different ways of making maps and utilizing these resources using both free websites and databases. Participants will upload a list of addresses to create a point map and will shade in areas of interest to create a simple reference map. Library users increasing want digital data in a geospatial format usable by GIS programs. Your patrons may not realize that the library offers a variety of data sources. This workshop will show several sources for GIS-friendly data and also introduce QGIS, an open source GIS program. The cost for this workshop is $59 for MCLS members and $119 for non-MCLS members. Group viewing rates are also available if you have multiple staff at your library that would like to view together.
