The Houghton area was severely hit. Major road cave-ins, sinkholes, and hazardous building damage and collapsing areas have led Governor Snyder to declare a state of emergency for the area. The Historical Society of Michigan is raising funds for the Houghton County Historical Society (HCHS) in Lake Linden and other local history organizations in the area that may have been affected to provide relief for the devastated portions of their historical collections and property.
