I was helping a patron obtain an email account today and was a little surprised to see that most of the major free web-based email services now require either a second email account or mobile phone number to activate the account. The woman needing email (for unemployment filing) has no previous email account and has no mobile phone. She can't be alone in this situation. Does anyone know of any web-based email services that still don't require mobile phone or previous email? Thanks! -- Stacy Pasche, Assistant Library Director

Mail.com does not require a phone or second email account. We've had the same problem and found this site. Chris (Marcellus) On Fri, Nov 7, 2014 at 12:45 PM, Stacy Pasche < spasche@benzieshoreslibrary.org> wrote:

Agreed with the other library. We searched and recommend mail.com or the owning company www.gmx.com. We tried them and you can truly create an account without a cell phone--so handy for our patrons.
