Good morning everyone, How is your library handling the requirements for website ADA compliance? My library is smaller, so we have until April 26, 2027 to comply with the new requirements but I wanted to get a head start. If you are using a company or have someone doing it in-house, let me know! Also, if you are using a company, I'd appreciate it if you could share contact information, costs, and a review of how they did. Thank you, Kelsey Rutkowski *--------------------------------------* *Library Director* *Indian River Area Library* 3546 S Straits Hwy PO Box 160 Indian River, MI 49749 (231) 238-8581 indianriverlibrary.org
I forgot to add that we currently use Wordpress as our website host, and are just looking for a company to help us clean it up and make it ADA compliant- we plan to continue to run the website by staff in-house, but want to make sure we are meeting the correct standards. Hi Kelsey, Sharon, and Michlib-l! Here is a link to Library of Michigan's Title II ADA WCAG 2.1 AA Resources for Libraries<https://docs.google.com/document/d/11CpCM2-dMspFEP0gNsLBcZqwDmTm7siza5rc41Yuxk8/edit?usp=sharing> that provides explanations, links to guides, videos, and tools to help with web accessibility! Under Audit Options (page 4) is a list of several different vendors you can look into. Here are some getting started links too: * Justice Department Webinar<https://youtu.be/hkhIGSvJC2o> (1 Hour) * Easy Checks – A First Review of Web Accessibility<https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/easy-checks/> (This is my favorite resource/tool!) * Selecting Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools<https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/tools/selecting/> - This provides a video guide of what to look for in an accessibility evaluation tool. * Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools List<https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/tools/list/#top> - This provides a list of accessible evaluation tools. There are over a 100 tools submitted for websites, so be sure to look through the filters and toggle the specific things you are looking for. There is also a "sort by" feature at the top for most recently updated and most recently added tools.
