Job Posting: Lawton Public Library Director

Hi Everyone, I am posting the following on behalf of the Lawton Public Library Board of Trustees: Library Director Position Posting Lawton Public Library seeks a creative and dedicated leader who prioritizes strong customer service, innovative management, and collaboration with the community to serve as Director. Located in southwest Michigan about 30 minutes away from Kalamazoo (home of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College), the Class 1 library serves over 2,000 residents in the Village of Lawton. The library director leads a staff of three (3) and manages an operating budget of $120,000. The local community enjoys regular library programming, such as story time, local history presentations, craft nights, and Summer Reading events for patrons of all ages. Responsibilities * Work 40 hours a week * Supervise, train, and evaluate staff. * Collection development and maintenance. * Oversee and create programs. * Oversee financial matters and prepare annual budget. * Prepare reports and grant proposals. * Maintain library website and social media accounts. * Long-range planning. * Instruct patrons on library policies and use of equipment. * Ensure customer service focus. * Report to Library Board of Trustees. Compensation Benefits package including insurance, paid holidays and vacations, and 401(k) retirement plan. Compensation package is commensurate with experience and education. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree with experience in roles of progressively increasing responsibility and public library experience. * Advanced degrees will be given appropriate consideration; Master of Library and Information Science, from an American Library Association-accredited school, is highly preferred. * Outstanding interpersonal skills, including oral and written communications. * Demonstration of excellent customer service, planning, financial management, and organizational skills. * Ability to work collaboratively with Board of Trustees, staff, and community (including local governing authorities). * Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff. * Strong computer skills and proficiency in social media marketing. * Thorough knowledge of current trends and best practices for public libraries.
