ALA News for May 22, 2018 NEWS FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden and National Archivist David S. Ferriero will present at the 2018 ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans Hayden and Ferriero will discuss the importance of collecting physical information and materials in the digital age. The Library of Congress and the National Archives are the home of the nation’s most valuable treasures and historical documents. During their conversation, the librarian and the archivist will discuss the role of their institutions in making these resources accessible to the public. This session will take place 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24 at the Ernest N. ALA, Harwood Institute announce 2018 ‘Public Innovators Lab for Libraries’ training in St. Louis The American Library Association (ALA) and The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation announce a three-day training opportunity to help libraries strengthen their role as agents of positive change in their communities. The Public Innovators Lab for Libraries will be held Oct. 9 to 11, 2018, in St. Louis, Missouri. Fostering wellness through physical literacy programs By helping patrons view the library in a new way, movement-based programs bring new people into libraries, help promote community health, and stimulate literacy for children and adults alike.
