Michigan Reads! program kits are coming soon!

I am pleased to announce that your Michigan Reads kits are being mailed this week! Every public library building will be receiving a kit. Also, each K-2 building will be receiving one kit. GSRP and Head Start sites will also be receiving approximately one kit for every two classrooms. Please find State Librarian Randy Riley's letter to program recipients attached. Keep an eye out for the kit with the Acoustic Rooster for your patrons. The 2014 title, Kwame Alexander's Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band, and the programming guide are full of developmentally appropriate activities for your programs. In the book, Acoustic Rooster learns about music, teamwork and sportsmanship. After realizing he can't win the barnyard talent contest as a solo act, a rooster with a love for jazz looks for help from other animals. He brings together a quartet, and their ability to work together is cleverly captured in this book with rhyming text and references to key American musicians. The launch event will be on Monday, September 8th at the Pleasant View Magnet School in Lansing with author Kwame, State Superintendent Mike Flanagan, and State Librarian Randy Riley in celebration of International Literacy Day. The author & illustrator tour will go throughout September and October and is listed at www.michigan.gov/michiganreads<http://www.michigan.gov/michiganreads>. To promote your local events, you can also find web ready graphics and a sample press release in the Promotions Toolkit at the same site. Thank you for your support and participation in this program!
