This is the first time this has come up for us, but does anyone know if it is copyright infringement to upload one chapter of a book into Canvas? I haven't done copyright in a long time! *Jessica Himstedt, MLIS* *Librarian - Acquisitions/Cataloging* *Mott Community College Library* *1401 E. The TEACH Act is supposed(!) to govern the distribution of copyrighted materials in online educational settings (but is considered by many to be a broken piece of legislation because of its vagueness). This, however, is a pretty good summary of the TEACH Act with some good guidelines: https://ogc.yale.edu/ogc/teach-act-guidelines Khalil El-Bathy Manager Technology, Literacy & Career Center Detroit Public Library 5201 Woodward Ave. Detroit, MI 48202 313-481-1363 ________________________________ From: Michlib-l <michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org> on behalf of Jessica Himstedt via Michlib-l <michlib-l@mcls.org> Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 3:50 PM To: michlib-l@mcls.org <michlib-l@mcls.org> Subject: [Michlib-l] CANVAS and book chapters? I taught at Siena Heights University and used Canvas. Cengage publishing allowed one chapter as long as the text was required, but preferred that we encourage students to buy the online version. I think each publisher is different.
