High School School library collection disbanded....

Suggestions needed ASAP : Our very large school library was dismantled last year. The last inventory indicated 23,971 books although some have been placed in a small browsing collection. Teacher have claimed some for their rooms but there is everything from reference to fiction to nonfiction. The books are in good condition. Mostly the books are in the boxes by Dewey just as they were packed in storage. Does anyone know a organization or place to donate or recycle library books?

One very good option would be Better World Books: Main URL: http://www.betterworldbooks.com/ Here is their Library donation page: http://www.betterworldbooks.com/go/donation-library They are an excellent company to work with. We used them for a great number of titles that were duplicates and not transferred to the main University Library when the Kresge Business Administration lost our space for the print collection last year. The real issue with books - and finding a good home for a disbanded collection - is the cost associated with shipping the material. While we would love to be able to send these to libraries that are in desperate need for books (especially overseas), the cost is huge to ship books - making the donation difficult to carry out. Hope this helps. Feel free to write me directly if you have any questions. Best - Corey Corey Seeman Director, Kresge Library Services (http://www.bus.umich.edu/kresgelibrary/) Stephen M. I would also consider talking to Thrift Books. http://www.thriftbooks.com/ They gave Wayne State a better deal on the withdrawn items from the collection. I don't know the details, but it might be worth an email or a call. Bob Dr. Robert P.
