MLA Book Club Returns! Read this email or I will be disappointed in you.
Hi library world, I know it's Monday and that you, specifically, are a very busy, important person, so I will make this quick because I respect your time.* I want you to come discuss some books with me.* *What books? Great question.* -"Dearborn" by Ghassan Zeineddine. -"Let Them Lead: Unexpected Lessons in Leadership from America’s Worst High School Hockey Team" by John Bacon. *Why these books? Another Great question!* The authors of these books will be speaking at this year's Michigan Library Association Conference. I think it would be fun to become more familiar with these speaker's works before seeing them speak next month. *When and where?* Join us via Zoom on *Thursday, October 15 at 10am.* You can sign up here <https://us05web.zoom.us/meeting/register/qgFynuHhScCdlLoOA5CaCA>. If you are coming to the MLA Annual Conference in Novi this year, we will also have a book club meeting at the conference on *Wednesday, October 28th*, just in time to discuss these two books together before both Ghassan Zeineddine and John Bacon speak at the conference on Thursday. *Do I need to read both books?*No. But you can if you want. Read what you want, and we will discuss both. Or read neither, and let us convince you why you should read them anyway. *Yeah, why should I read these books?* "Let Them Lead" is really great - I devoured it over the weekend and I could not put it down. I know nothing about hockey, but I learned a lot about leadership, and I can't wait to talk about it with others. I am starting Dearborn today! I bet it is also going to be great! -- Ryan Tackabury Director Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library 211 North Almont Avenue Imlay City, MI 48444 (810) 721-2737 www.ruthhughes.org

Ryan, I love this idea! Also, is the zoom on Oct. 15th or the 21st? The registration form says the 21st. ------------------ Valerie Long, MLIS Collections Clerk I Ann Arbor District Library longv@aadl.org / 734-327-4286 From: "Michlib" <michlib-l@liblists.org> To: "Ryan Tackabury" <rtackabury@ruthhughes.org>, "Michlib" <michlib-l@liblists.org> Sent: Monday, September 28, 2026 11:16:52 AM Subject: [Michlib-l] Re: MLA Book Club Returns! Hi everyone, just a small update: Despite my double checking, I put the wrong date in the email! We are meeting on Zoom on the Thursday before the annual conference, which is *Thursday, October 22nd*, not the 15th. The date on the Zoom page is correct. Thank you to those who pointed it out!
