Many of you use Google Apps at your library. My question is this. Do you just use the Apps account through a personal email or have you purchased the suite for your library staff? Also, did you receive a discount from Google? I spoke with a reseller yesterday and he indicated that we could use Apps from a personal account legally but we may be eligible for the suite through Google. When I look on the Google site however, it just shows 501c(3) schools and universities as qualifying. The rest of us would be $5 per month or $50 per year per user. Any information would be appreciated. [cid:image002.jpg@01CFDEE3.221AADF0]

As a public library, you will qualify for the free Google Apps for Education. Don't use a reseller. We, Royal Oak Public Library, have been using it for 6 years. I think you are initially given 50 free accounts, but you can request more. When I requested more, I was given 2000 with an invitation to request more. Sorry about the possible misinformation. While Royal Oak started using Google Apps for Education for free 6 years ago, it appears that libraries may not qualify anymore. I will research it further. I ended up contacting Google (this was about two years ago) and asking them if I could have my Friends (who are 501(c)3) apply and if they could share the email with us. They said that it should be fine. So we applied as a non-profit through our Friends (after getting approval from the Friends) and then were able to offer the accounts to both the Friends and the Library. You can setup multiple organizations under a Google Apps account so I have one for the Friends and one for the Library. Melanie Bell | Network Administrator Chelsea District Library | 221 S.
