latest information for Detcon1 science fiction convention

The North American Science Fiction Convention, Detcon1, is coming up in Detroit in just over a week. A NASFiC is held in a year when the World Science Fiction Convention is held outside of North America. This year's convention will be July 17-20 at the Renaissance Center. In addition to the usual activities at a large SF convention (panels, art, Makerspace, film festival, masquerade, etc.), Detcon1 will host the presentation of the Golden Duck Awards and the special Detcon1 Awards for YA and Middle Grade speculative fiction. The awards ceremony will be Saturday evening during the masquerade competition. Online registration will be available through July 11. One-day memberships can be purchased as well as full and weekend memberships. There are special (lower-priced) categories for young adults (13-24) and children (5-12); there is no charge for children under 5 with parents. Memberships can also be purchased at the door.
