eResource Training - Clare @ Pere Marquette District Library

Good afternoon everyone, I’m excited to share a great training opportunity that will be taking place on Tuesday & Wednesday (August 27th and 28th) Here at the Pere Marquette District Library in Clare. Theresa Runyan, MeL Engagement Specialist, from MCLS will be doing 2 basic and advanced classes. I have included the description of the classes below. There is no cost to this training. Sheila Bissonnette Times are: 8/27: Basic 9 a.m.-12p.m 8/27: Advanced 1 p.m-4 p.m 8/28: Basic. 9 a.m.-12 p.m. 8/28: Advanced 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Training Descriptions – Hub Venue eResources Basics Intended for library staff who have not used or are just beginning to use eResources. During this session, you will perform guided searches and put into practice your new eResource searching skills. Learn how to: * Decide when to use Google vs MeL eResources * Access and navigate the MeL website * Navigate to, and within the different types of eResources * Basic search techniques * Save, share, and print your search results * Serve your patrons with our 7 Best eResources for new-to-eResources users * Promote the advantages of using eResources to your patrons and community This session will also highlight some of the useful tools within our databases, including: 1. Text-to-Speech for HTML articles to assist struggling readers or those learning English 2. COPPA compliancy, meaning EBSCO does not ask for or require personal information to use its databases 3. Password-protected personal folders that allow users to save search results in a secure and organized holding area eResources Advanced Intended for library staff who are currently using or have regularly used databases in the past and already know the basics of navigating and searching databases. This session will take a deeper dive into our eResources, demonstrating how to: * Access information quickly and easily * Serve your patrons with our 10 Best eResources for experienced eResources users * Conduct advanced searches that produce more relevant results * Create and use folders, personal accounts, download and save searches and search results * Search across multiple databases * Assist your patrons efficiently, providing them with authoritative, relevant and accurate information * Promote the advantages of using eResources to your patrons and community This session will also highlight some of the useful tools within our databases, including: 1.
