Call for Nominations: MeLCat Advisory Committee 2016

The Library of Michigan seeks to fill vacancies on the MeLCat Advisory Committee. All library types are needed! The purpose of the committee is to advise the State Librarian on policies for the statewide catalog and resource-sharing system with a specific focus on standards, system evaluation, borrowing/lending policies and best practices. Members serve 2 year staggered terms. Representatives from MeLCat libraries of varying sizes and types--public, academic, school and special -- are sought as well as those using a variety of library automation systems. Membership encompasses people with a wide range of expertise in such areas as cataloging, shared catalog creation and management, circulation, inter-library loan, and resource sharing in individual as well as shared library systems. Two Library of Michigan staff serve as permanent members. Committee oversight comes from the MeL Coordinator as well as a MeLCat staff member from the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) who is also a permanent committee member. The Committee will meet 3 times/year at the MCLS office in Lansing. Bringing together staff with a wide range of backgrounds will promote an integrated approach to policy design and problem solving. Committee members will be responsible for soliciting feedback from their constituencies. When necessary, subcommittees and task forces will be created to address specific issues. Then next meeting in 2016 will be in March or April.
