Wanted to send a reminder for a few MLA deadlines today, Leadership Academy EB rates and scholarships as well as scholarship apps for Surviving and Thriving as a New Library Director are due today. Sessions will cover leadership skills like emotional intelligence, communication, managing change, teamwork, and coaching as well as more library-specific information about finance, legislation and advocacy, media, and working effectively with a board of directors. The 2024 program includes five in-person days and three Zoom meetings. It begins April 29 in Lansing and concludes in October at the MLA 2024 Annual Conference in Traverse City. Participants will attend In-person sessions in Lansing, Southfield, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City. Registration is $1445 for MLA members and includes meals during in-person meetings, as well as hotel accommodations on April 29 and October 15. Early Bird Rates expire TODAY, Friday, March 15. Surviving and Thriving as a New Library Director is a great opportunity if you need one-on-one consulting and support for your specific situation. This in-depth program, presented by consultant, coach, speaker, and retired library director Maxine Bleiweis, addresses the many challenges confronting public library directors. Designed to help new and future library directors survive and thrive as leaders in the library and community, the Surviving and Thriving as a Library Director course offers a unique combination of small-group support and expert guidance. The program consists of a half-day workshop and three webinar sessions, as well as an individual consulting session with Maxine for the opportunity to get personalized guidance and advice for managing your most pressing challenges. Suggested readings, podcasts, and discussions of practical scenarios will help you develop your leadership skills. Topics covered will include: * personnel issues * managing boards and city managers * spotting trends * leveraging your community for support * taking care of yourself * community leadership and management style * specific situations that each attendee is facing The program is $975 for MLA members.
