We have a patron looking for Japanese children's books for a child in elementary school that wants to read, but is struggling with English. We haven't had much with the MeL search engine, but have had luck by first searching Ann Arbor's catalog (Thank you Ann Arbor!) for titles and then searching for those in MeL. So, my question is, are there other libraries in Michigan with a large collection of Japanese language children's books? Thank you! -- Thomas Trahey Mason County District Library Head of Circulation 231-843-8465

Yes. Capital Area District Libraries has a collection of Japanese language children's books. Our Japanese books begin with a call# code of JPN. If you look in our catalog under JPN JE you will find approximately 26 picture books. https://opac.cadl.org/search~S15/X?SEARCH=(jpn%20je)&SORT=D If you look under JPN J you will find around 28 juvenile fiction, graphic novels and or nonfiction. https://opac.cadl.org/search~S15/X?SEARCH=(jpn%20j)&SORT=D Best wishes. Thank you all for starting this thread and responding. I do not have any Japanese material currently, but this is one area of my library collection I would like to build on. Knowing who owns titles and what they are will prove useful in my search to determine which titles to purchase. Thank you! You may wish to also check with the Farmington Community Library. It has been a few years since I last worked there, but they had a huge foreign language section, serving several languages (including Japanese). I just searched their catalogue and here is what I found under Children's international language collection -- Japanese: https://polpac.farmlib.org/search/searchresults.aspx?ctx=3.1033.0.0.1&type=Browse&term=Children%27s%20international%20language%20collection%20--%20Japanese&by=SU&sort=RELEVANCE&limit=TOM=*&query=MSH=%2744938%27&page=0&searchid=2 Cheers, Steven On Mon, Jan 31, 2022 at 10:37 AM Lorry Traver via Michlib-l < michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:
