The Library was awarded the "Community Builder Award" in 2021 from the Novi Chamber of Commerce for its innovative approach to reaching its community by introducing the first self-service kiosk in Michigan, called Lakeshore Lending Library. Join our team! *JOB TITLE: Head of Information Services * *REPORTS TO: Director* *PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:* 1. Manages library and building operations in the absence of the Director; oversees opening and closing procedures, responds to emergencies and provides support; acts quickly, exercising good judgment. 2. Has state-of-the-art knowledge of the Library and its departments; works positively and collaboratively across departments to accomplish library goals; recommends department and library needs. 3. Provides day-to-day management of the Library including interacting with the public, supervision, evaluating, training, hiring, scheduling, emergency preparedness, budgeting, statistical data collection and reporting. 4. Works as a member of the Management Team to create, interpret, update and communicate policies and procedures, compatible with the Library's Mission, Motto and Goals; participates in the development of short and long-term goals for the department and the Library. 5. Serves as a face for the Library; engages in outreach and events in the Novi community; participates in and manages staff on various library, professional and community committees and projects as assigned. *Management duties specific to the Information Services Department:* 1. Manages, trains and mentors a staff of 20 (Including: Collections Specialist (1), Early Literacy Specialist (1), Digital Services Librarian (1), Teen Librarian (1), Business Librarian (1), International Language Librarian (1), Librarian (10 - Full/Part-time, including Sunday Librarians), Programming Coordinator(1), Technology Assistant (2), Teen Space Monitor (1). 2. Manages collection development duties: selection, ordering, budgeting, marketing and weeding; helps promote the Library's print, digital and Lakeshore kiosk collections; monitors turnaround time when materials are ordered (new materials, inter-loan, leased collections, donations, etc.); explores and makes recommendations for new and improved collections based on trends and community needs; plan for future collections. 3. Oversees the staff liaison to the Novi Historical Commission; attends meetings, assists with programs, displays; oversees the maintenance of the Local History collection in both print and digital. 4. Manages and provides readers' advisory, reference service and computer assistance using a variety of collections, materials, and formats. 5. Manages programming and outreach opportunities for youth, teens and adults appropriate to the needs of the community; oversees the Teen Space afterschool program. 6. Oversees iCube Makerspace in cooperation with the Information Technology department to ensure adequate staffing, programming, guest services, policies and procedures, budgeting and equipment. 7. Ensures building security at closing (check doors, clear the building and set alarm). 8. Writes detailed, clear and concise incident reports, obtaining case numbers in the event of police involvement. 9. Communicates effectively with guests, co-workers, and professional colleagues; adapts and responds to multiple priorities, interruptions and demands, and resolves problems in a positive manner. 10. Stays informed of library news/events via review of all forms of library communication: website, email, social media, library and staff e-newsletters; contributes content as appropriate. *REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:* 1. Master's Degree from an ALA accredited school. 2. Three or more years of related library experience including one year of supervisory experience. 3. Knowledge of adult, teen and youth literature. 4. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. 11. Ability to speak multiple languages helpful. 12. May require a valid Michigan driver's license based on assignment. *WORKING ENVIRONMENT:* 1. Physical mobility, vision, hearing, and manual dexterity essential. 2. Maintain physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, bending, and /or walking for extended periods of time; stooping; crouching; reaching; carrying books or boxes of books; pushing book carts; seeing; keyboarding; using the telephone; lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; push or pull with wheeled cart up to 200 pounds; operating assigned equipment; picking up litter; spreading ice melt. *SCHEDULED HOURS, SALARY AND BENEFITS:* *Hours: *Forty (40) hours per week, includes days/evenings, weekends (management rotation of every 5 weeks). *Salary range: *$60,634 - $77,170 annually *Benefits: *Position provides personal business leave, sick leave, vacation, 10 paid holidays, medical, dental, life insurance and retirement benefits (Defined Contribution plan). *APPLICATION INFORMATION:* - Only complete application packets (which include a current Novi Public Library application, resume, and cover letter) will be considered.
