Surplus Seeds to Give Away

A local farm store donated their surplus seeds to us at the end of the 2024 season. These are commercial seeds with a colored coating on them. I have the following available to give to other seed libraries: Lincoln Peas Little Marvel Peas Providence Corn Golden Nugget Corn Fordhook Lima Beans These will probably go fast, so if you are interested, please respond asap. I think I have enough to give some to about 20 libraries. Thank you, -Laura Orlowski, director Jonesville District Library zv186 517-849-9701 jonesville@monroe.lib.mi.us

Hi! We don’t have a seed library but we do have a yearly plant/seed swap that is coming up in May and we would love to be able to share some seeds with our patrons! Do you have any left? Great job, Laura, for sharing your generous donation! Building on another recent thread about hybrids and labeling, seed libraries might want to consider that both of the corn varieties are hybrid seeds. You might want to consider at least mentioning it on your label, if only for educational purposes. Something to the effect of "Hybrid seeds, not for seed saving." The peas and limas are both old standards and open-pollinated. As for the colored coating, you might also want to put that on the package as well. It indicates that the seed is coated with an insecticide, a fungicide, or both. People who garden organically would not want to use these in their garden, so a warning label would probably be appreciated.
