Comfort Blanket Making with Gift of Life
Hello, I wanted to pass along a great program we hosted last night - Comfort Blanket Making with Gift of Life Michigan. Gift of Life Michigan is the organ and tissue donation organization for the state. For this free program, GoL brought fleece fabric and materials and taught everyone how to make a no-sew blanket. All the blankets made are collected and donated to families and individuals affected by organ and tissue donation. We opened the program to 20 spots (due to space) and we had all 20 spots fill up, PLUS we had our local Girl Scout Troop of seven 11-13-year-olds come! After a short presentation, all the adults got started on the blankets while the teens got a special presentation with the GoL youth educator and even got to see real organ and tissue specimens, which they loved! Overall, this was a great program that I would highly recommend. Not only does it get out a great message about understanding how organ donation works, but it was a fun way to give back. All the attendees loved that the blankets they were making were going to individuals and families who needed them for comfort.
