Hi all, Thank you all for your responses about what do with students in other communities obtaining library cards at YOUR library. Responses are below: We do at ROAK. They get a "Temporary" patron type that is good through the school year. Southfield also offers cards to those living, working or attending school in Southfield or Lathrup Village (students must come register with a parent/guardian and documentation from the school such as a current report card or tuition bill). Non-resident cards do not have access to our overdrive or hoopla services so we encourage people to get cards at their home library as well. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We have a ONE card which we offer to students. No parent signature required, they can just sign up for one through their schools. Parents can come in and sign for a full privilege card that is good until the coming September. This is for any child who goes to school in Redford Township. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Taylor also has a policy of providing cards to everyone who lives, works, or attends school in Taylor. Residents of other communities can decide whether they would like to keep/apply for a library card from their home community or to transfer their service to our library. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Many of the students who attend school in our district don't live in Ferndale. We offer students library cards based on the fact that they attend a school in our district. Borrowing privileges/resources may differ from resident to student non-resident cards, but every student who is at least age 5 and up, and is enrolled in FPS is eligible to receive a library card with us. When we did a library card drive for our schools, we got some applications back from kids who lived in another community. We sent them each a letter explaining reciprocal borrowing and included instructions on how to get a card from their library (all were other TLN libraries) and enclosed an application from their library if it was available so that they could fill it out ahead of time and just take it in. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We updated our online card application to include a checkbox for Plymouth Canton Schools (so residency does not matter). These specific cards expire June 30th, 2021 so a few weeks after the end of the school year.
