Greetings!
As part of the monthly Library Law Spotlight Webinar series, Wednesday, November 27, 2019 @ 10:30am
There will be a FREE 45 minute webinar discussing the copyright ramifications of the use of images by public libraries.
“Graphic Mistakes: Copyright & Public Libraries’ use of Images”
Compelling images and graphics are important components of websites, social media posts and programing promotional material. It is very tempting to cut and paste
or copy existing images from online sites, or from licensed sources. The problem is that no matter where an image is found, odds are that image has an owner, and that owner would expect payment for the use of that image/graphic. Libraries are not exempt from
copyright, and not all uses are “fair” simply because the use is for a Library. Currently, Libraries are being caught by companies that crawl the web looking for unauthorized use of images/photos. If found, the company then demands hefty fees for the unlicensed
use. This webinar will review information to assist libraries in avoiding the unauthorized use of graphics/photos.
