I'll second Jonathan Rand! We have him here every couple of years, and he's wonderful. We get probably our best turnout for an author visit with him, and he's so great to work with. The kids love him. He's easy, and his talk is great. We usually take him to 2 or 3 elementary schools during the day and then have him do a library program in the evening. He is well, well worth the money. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions; I'd be happy to chat! -Alisha Daugherty On Fri, Aug 5, 2016 at 3:13 PM, Mary Beth Reasoner < mbreasoner@tecumsehlibrary.org> wrote:
Dear Meghan,
Jonathan Rand is wonderful and you will have no trouble attracting a crowd! In fact, you will have just the opposite challenge - determining the cut-off point. People will come from beyond your service area to see him, unless you choose to establish some restrictions in attendance. His fee may seem a bit pricey, but his program is well worth it. Our Friends Group helped with the cost.
We ended up selling tickets for $1.00 as a fundraiser and presenting his program in our Civic Auditorium rather than our Meeting Room. I think we offered the tickets to our patrons first for a week or two, and then opened it up to the public at large.
His contact person works closely with you. Check out www.americanchillers.com for more details. He usually features photos of his visits on his website as well as an itinerary.
Jonathan comes prepared and interacts very well with both children and parents. He is passionate about reading and writing, and his enthusiasm comes through in his presentation.
He will sign books afterwards, but I do not know the current guidelines.
Please feel free to call me if you would like to chat further.
Warm regards,
Mary Beth

Hello,
I would love to hear from anyone who has hosted Reg Pettibone from the Michigan Humanities Touring Directory, and/or anyone who has hosted Jonathan Rand, author of the Michigan Chillers series. If you’ve had either of these as presenters in your library, I am interested to know how program went and how many people attended, that sort of thing.
Feel free to reply off-list.
Thank you!
