Reference/ Local History Librarian Job Description
20 hours per week (16 hours on desk)
Evenings and rotating Saturdays required.
Job Description:
- Be able to troubleshoot basic computer issues.
- Answer reference questions with accuracy
- Be able to access information effectively.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Be able to assist patrons in one-on-one computer lessons.
- Catalog materials using MARC standards, DDC, LCSH, and RDA.
- Assist in collection development.
- Maintain the local history room.
- Archival work with newspapers pertaining to the Kalamazoo area, in particular Comstock.
- Indexing local historical information.
- M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree from an A.L.A. accredited institution.
This job requires:
- Sitting for long periods of time.
- Pushing book carts and lifting up to 25 lbs. of library materials
- Retrieving materials from high or low shelves.
- Sitting at a computer for long periods of time.
