Space Planning: Reinventing Your Library Space is a regional and interactive workshop that guides attendees through a day of learning on how space planning works. Whether you're interested in rearranging existing furniture to increase circulation, make it easier for patrons to find programs, renovating, or even designing a new library, the Space Planning workshop will give you a concrete set of tools to use. This workshop uses learnings from retail stores to help library workers understand how to make libraries more accessible and easier to understand for patrons. Also covered is working with architects and interior designers and signage and wayfinding. As a participant, you will work both individually and in groups to begin applying these new skills. Throughout the day-long training, New York University (NYU) professor and Forbes contributor, David Vinjamuri, will provide insights, best practices, and tools to help you think clearly about your library's current space and map out a plan that will improve how you use your existing space, or how you might design a new space. At the end of this training, attendees will be able to: * Demonstrate a shared understanding of best practices in planning library space in the 21st century; * Recognize methods for improving circulation of library materials using various retail techniques; and * Apply insights and best practices in space planning to design a renovation or build out new library space. Who Should Attend? The Space Planning workshop is recommended for all library staff and stakeholders interested in learning how to plan library space, including directors, managers, and board or foundation members. This program will benefit libraries who are planning for a renovation, building out a new space, looking to improve circulation, or endeavoring to enrich the use of their community spaces. Registration is limited to 100 participants. This event is appropriate for individuals or small teams from libraries. PLA wants to make sure there is room for attendees from many diverse libraries at each event, which will create a richer learning experience for everyone.
