You are invited to join the Bridgman Public Library as we welcome author William Hazelgrove on Tuesday, May 24th at 6:00pm via Zoom.  Hazelgrove will talk about his book `Greed in the Gilded Age.'

Book Summary:
She came from nothing and had no education. But she managed to face down the richest man in the world in open court, live like a queen, and take down a banking system. Her name was Cassie Chadwick and by claiming to be Andrew Carnegie's illegitimate daughter she led a life of luxury only to be caught and put on trial in the Trial of the Century – a trial so engrossing it eclipsed the inauguration of Theodore Roosevelt.

This Gatsby-like tale includes mystery, money, sex, and scandal. ‘Millionaire’ was a new term in America and Cassie Chadwick was front page news. Using these newspaper articles, Hazelgrove tells the story of one of the greatest cons in American history.
