Rebecca - My library in Jackson County, WV did a "Biggest Loser" program with our local Health Department. They provided most of the programs and we provided the promotion, space, and people. It was great! They had speakers in to talk about healthy eating, etc. - including a few focused specifically for diabetes and other similar diseases. We lined up agreements with local exercise/healthy living organizations - health clubs, the Y, etc. - for groups of people to try out their classes on specific nights. For example, people could sign up at the library for a line dancing class on a specific night. It was counted as a library program, but took place at the Y. People "weighed in" at the beginning and on regular "weigh in" dates, and the person who lost the most won a prize. There were other prizes, too. And the total lost by all the participants was posted. It was impressive - over 500 pounds lost in six weeks by about 187 participants. One of the things we did was a "Story Walk" for people to read and walk at the same time, and we did a lot of promoting of our audio e-books and playaways. Let us know how it goes!
