Teaching Comprehensive History Webinar Series: Public Resources for Teaching Comprehensive History
This week on October 19, Michigan Collection Librarian Mindy Babarskis and Reference Librarian Kendel Darragh presented to social studies
educators around the state as part of the
Michigan Department of Education’s
Teaching Comprehensive History Webinar Series. The session,
Public Resources for Teaching Comprehensive History, shared with educators multiple online spaces to access materials that support instructors’ efforts in teaching comprehensive history. Several of
the resources highlighted throughout the session are available through the
Library of Michigan as well as the
Michigan eLibrary.
The content of the presentation drew on research material pertaining to the murder of Vincent Chin in Highland Park in 1982, the trials
of his killers, as well as the impact of the unjust verdicts and sentencing on minority/civil rights movements in the U.S. Inspiration for the topic came from the book
From
a Whisper to a Rallying Cry: The Killing of Vincent Chin and the Trial that Galvanized the Asian American Movement by
Paula Yoo. From a Whisper to a Rallying Cry was recently honored as a
2022 Michigan Notable Book selection.
