Here’s the verbiage my board just approved.

I’ve heard that there may be changes in this, so you may want to wait. We decided to just continue with this and even if there is a change, we will continue paying this leave for part time people.

We used to pay earned leave for part time that worked 25 hours or more, now we pay for all. Let me know if you have any questions.

Earned Sick Time

Following the Earned Sick Time Act of Michigan, Earned Sick Time (EST) will be provided for all part-time employees beginning February 21, 2025.

  1. All Part-time employees will accrue 1 hour of Earned Sick Time for every 30 hours worked, credited on every paycheck.
  2. There is a 72 hour maximum of EST that can be used in one calendar year.
  3. EST will roll over each year
  4. Any EST over 72 hours on November 30th of each year, will be paid out at 100% of hourly rate.
  5. EST may be used for any reason, including illness, injury, appointments, taking care of a dependent, or for any other reason allowed under Michigan’s Earned Sick Time Act.
  6. In addition to the prior reasons, EST may also be used for supervisor approved vacations.
  7. If EST is depleted, any further time off will be done without pay.

Subject: [Michlib-l] Policy on new Earned Sick Time Act (Paid Medical Leave Act)

Hello everyone,

Has any library adopted a new policy concerning the new Earned Sick Time Act for their employee policy? We have three part-time employees. We would deeply appreciate if you could share any feedback or policy that your library has adopted.

Sincerely,
