Hi Andrea, Better late than never! Van Buren District Library charges .15 cents per page, both sending and receiving. The staff are the ones who process the faxes on behalf of the patrons. .15 per page was a recent price reduction to bring it inline with our copying fees. We offer faxing as a service and it’s not intended to be a money maker. Most people who send faxes are not people of means and they only need to send a sheet or two, though every now and again we’ll have a patron who needs to send a voluminous fax. For the most part our patrons don’t experience the need to receive faxes, only to send them. Until this past June we charged the following: A. Cover sheet when sent with regular pages ................................. $0.00 B. First 10 sheets sent cost per page.................................................. $0.50 C. Each additional sheet after the first 10 pages.............................. $1.00 D. Each sheet receiving B & W............................................................ $0.15 E. Each sheet receiving color (if available)....................................... $0.40 Earlier in the year the staff lobbied me to bring the faxing fees inline with our copying fees, because, as previously stated, most in need of fax service are not people of means. I agreed with them and brought it to the Library Board, which amended our policy. Curious what you all are charging for patron faxes (not interested in self-service fax machines, only fees for your staff to be involved in the faxing). Sending, per page - do you have a max fee/fax? Receiving, per page - do you have a max fee/fax?
We are seeing quite a few courts document related faxes that are 20+ pages and the fee for those faxes seems out of line with the amount of work our staff are putting into the sending of them. We're looking at adding a max fee/fax and I'm curious as to what other libraries are doing regarding fees for this service.
Many thanks! Andrea
