STEM Equity Framework: Building Equitable, Inclusive Library Services That Address Community Needs
Cornerstones of Science and the Maryland, Idaho and Connecticut state library partners, were recently awarded a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian IMLS grant (250085-OLS-21) entitled STEM Equity Framework: Building Equitable, Inclusive Library Services That Address Community Needs. The goal of the project is to work with state and public library leaders to develop a shared definition and attributes of a STEM Equity Library. This includes developing the strategies and the training library directors need to build operational capacity that delivers intentional equitable science and technology library services able to serve all individuals and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
As a first step, they want to learn about the very good work that is already occurring throughout the country that they might learn from and build on. So, please complete this form if your library is providing excellence in either/both:
1) Adult programming and services around science-based issues of local concern (e.g. public health, water quality, food insecurity and environmental justice as examples).
2) Equitable, inclusive library programs and services for all members of the community.
Please complete this form by Thursday, December 16th, and we will compile and pass your information along to the project.
Thank you,
Cathy Lancaster

Register NowTrauma-informed librarianship (TIL) is a vital practice that invites us to be intentional and deliberate about creating cultural shifts in how we approach our work to move towards healing, for our patrons, for each other, and for ourselves. This webinar will introduce participants to what trauma is and how it impacts both individuals and communities; the principles and goals of trauma-informed librarianship; how we can apply this lens to library services in actionable ways to better support survivors in our libraries, whether they are patrons or colleagues; and how we can take care of ourselves too, through 10 concrete self-care strategies.
Guest Speaker Karina Hagelin (they/them) is a chronically ill and disabled queer femme librarian who is passionate about working with library workers and librarians who are committed to creating cultures that center healing through radical empathy, collective care, and social justice work. Blending their lived experiences and expertise on trauma-informed librarianship, they lead diverse groups of librarians and library workers through engaging, interactive, and informative webinars + workshops. Subject: [Michlib-l] Librarian/archivist questions_______________________________________________Hi,I was wondering how competitive the job market is for librarians and archivists. Is there a difference in how many jobs are open for archivists, public librarians, university librarians? What is the salary for public librarians vs university librarians vs archivists? What are the types of classes you have to do for a MLIS program and is reading and writing involved? Also do you have to like reading and writing to work at a library or in archives or is it more of like research type stuff? Thanks,
