After 20 years of CSLP participation in various roles, Jasmine Rockwell (now Jasmine Boogaart) will be starting a new chapter in her life. She has served on many committees including teen manual, nomination & leadership, social media, theme & slogan, membership. She
served as Pres-elect, President and Past President from 2012 to 2015 and since 2022 has been a member of the board as Vendor Chair. We will sincerely miss her dedication and passion for making CSLP the best it can be and wish her all the best as she goes on
to new adventures.
To fill the Vendor chair position for the remainder of the year, the CSLP Board approved the appointment of Anna Foote from Kansas and Jean Jensen from Illinois as co-chairs.
Anna Foote is the Youth and School Services Consultant and the Northeast Kansas Library System. Anna has served 4 years on the Vendor Committee and in her second full year of serving as the Kansas State Rep. Her all-time favorite thing about CSLP is how collaborative
efforts by volunteers across the states--and beyond--provide an excellent summer program for so many children, teens, and families!
Jean Jensen served as CSLP State Rep for Illinois from 2016-2023 as well as on many different committees including the Artwork, Inclusion, and Social Media Committees. In addition, she has a combined 6 years of experience serving on the Vendor Committee. What
Jean loves most about CSLP is that it includes library professionals from all over that strive to serve our library audiences with enthusiasm.
If you would like to get involved at a Board or Committee Chair level, please contact the Nominating & Leadership Committee by emailing
Donna Throckmorton. Board and Committee Chairs will be elected at our next Annual Meeting, set to be held virtually in August 2025. More information
will be shared soon.
Bridging
Physical and Digital: Unlocking the Full Potential of Library Spaces
Libraries today offer more than just books- they provide dynamic physical and digital experiences that complement and enrich one another. While some joint promotion already exists between in-branch and digital resources, there is exciting potential for even
deeper integration. By strengthening the synergy between these spaces, libraries can boost program attendance, foster community engagement, increase library card signups, and enhance overall usage.
One digital resource leading this charge is Hoopla. This extensive, on-demand collection offers countless ways to align with in-branch programming and outreach efforts. In a recent
webinar, library leaders shared innovative strategies for connecting physical programming with Hoopla's digital offerings. From tying into blockbuster movie releases to amplifying the reach of local community events, these
examples showed how digital tools can extend and enrich the library experience.
Becky
Stuck, Youth Services Supervisor at the Whitetown Branch of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library, shared how she integrated Hoopla into her popular StoryWalk by placing QR codes on signage, allowing families to instantly access the featured titles. She's also
reimagining traditional storytimes by projecting children's eBooks from Hoopla on a large screen and reading them aloud-bringing fresh energy and accessibility to a beloved library activity.
To discover more creative strategies like these, check out our on-demand webinar where library professionals dive deeper into connecting digital and in-person experiences.
And don't miss Hoopla's summer reading collection, inspired by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) theme Color Our World. It's a vibrant celebration of how stories and art can illuminate our lives-and a great way to engage readers
all summer long.
CSLP is excited to partner again with the Library Speakers Consortium to bring summer author events to CSLP members!
The Library Speakers Consortium (LSC) is a partnership of more than 400 libraries working together to bring high-quality online author talk programs to their patrons. CSLP member libraries will receive free access to TWO of the amazing live-streamed events.
Katherine Applegate, award-winning author and our CSLP Summer Reading Champion, will host a 30-minute session on her novel in verse,
Odder. Raśl The Third, Pura Belpre award-winning illustrator, author, and artist, will host two sessions - one in Spanish and one in English. Both sessions will be 30 minutes long, with discussion
focused on ”Vamos! Let’s Go Read!.
Along with access to the live-stream, members will also have access to the recordings and marketing resources to use for planning a special program around one of these fantastic author talks!
Bring Art to Life in Your Library with the New Mural Toolkit
To celebrate the 2025 Summer Reading theme Color Our World, the New York State Library has partnered with muralist, educator, and community impact strategist
Jade Warrick to create an inspiring new resource: the
Mural Toolkit for Libraries.
Designed to empower libraries to engage their communities through collaborative art, the toolkit includes a complete curriculum, materials lists, best practices, and curated links to additional resources. Ms. Warrick introduced the toolkit in a recent online
session, sharing insight into the creative process and practical steps for planning and implementing mural projects.
We’re excited to share this dynamic guide with the CSLP community and encourage libraries to explore how a mural project could enrich their summer programming—or spark a future community collaboration. Whether you’re a first-time muralist or looking to build
on past projects, this toolkit is a valuable asset for bringing color, creativity, and connection into your library space.

Photo Comic Club 2025 CSLP Manual Chapter 4, page 123
Participants create their own comics using preprinted royalty-free photos or images cut from donated magazines, adding their own text to create the story. Provide sheets of
paper with printed comic panels for them to build their comic. This project can be adapted for a range of ages by adjusting the comic panels accordingly. Older participants may want
more comic panels to tell their story, while younger children may need fewer, yet larger, panels.
Adaptation - Invite participants to bring photos of themselves or family and friends to make a more personalized story. Recreate a fun family memory, vacation, or event.
Make sure they have permission to cut the family photos they bring or make copies to cut up, preserving the originals!
