Hello Danielle:

Please note that there have been some changes in the federal laws surrounding pregnancy in the workplace. The EEOC recently updated their information: https://www.eeoc.gov/pregnancy-discrimination. See also A good description of how these laws may affect Michigan employers: https://www.michlaborlaw.com/preparing-employers-new-regulations-pregnant-workers-fairness

Also, depending on how the library interacts with your municipality, (if, for example, the library’s employee benefits are through the municipality), your municipality may also have an impact on the types of benefits available to this employee.

Libraries working with pregnant employees will want to consult their attorneys in light of these new laws to ensure their policies are compliant.

Take care!

Clare

Subject: [Michlib-l] Maternity Leave Policies

CAUTION: This is an External email. Please send suspicious emails to abuse@michigan.gov

Good afternoon, Library Land!

I've been looking over our maternity leave policy in preparation for a staff member, and it's pretty antiquated. I'd love for anyone who's willing to share their policies with me. The employee is not eligible for the FMLA since she's not been here a year yet, so anything that deals with that situation, in particular, will be extremely helpful.

Thank you,
