Description
The Clinton Township Public Library Board of Trustees seeks an accessible, energetic and enthusiastic leader to be the voice of the library in the community and serve as its next Library Director. A Class 1 library in north Lenawee County, Clinton Library is governed by an elected panel of six Trustees and boasts a small but mighty staff that prides itself on its creative, well-attended programming for patrons of all ages. Key initiatives include promoting the library to all generations of lifelong learners, working with the board to review and revise library policy, helping the library keep pace with technological trends, and leading and supporting staff through active communication and collaboration.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a collaborative leadership style, and knowledge of current trends and best practices in library management.
Qualifications
A minimum of two years of relevant public library experience, a Level 3 Library Staff Certification or higher from the Library of Michigan (or the qualifications to obtain one within six months of hire), completion of New Director’s and Advanced Director’s courses through the Library of Michigan (or the ability to complete within six months of hire), and demonstrated success in a leadership position. Prior public library administration experience and an ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library Science not required but recommended.

Greater Pittsburgh is a place where outdoor enthusiasts can bike, walk, or run along the 24 miles of riverfront trails on the three rivers and can take advantage of the borough park system while Ohiopyle State Park, Laurel Highlands, and the Allegheny National Forest are just a short drive away. The Pittsburgh region has several nationally renowned cultural and educational institutions such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Andy Warhol Museum, August Wilson African American Cultural Center, National Aviary, as well as the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duquesne University. The technology, higher education, and medical sectors have helped diversify the local economy. *Responsibilities:* The Library Director, under broad policy guidance and direction from the SPL board, performs professional and administrative duties in the planning, developing, implementing, and directing of library services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing strategic planning and direction, supervision of personnel, creating and managing the library budget, developing and maintaining the public library collections and historic facilities, administering the policies established by the board, and overseeing and evaluating all library departments.
*Qualifications:* Five (5) years of experience as a librarian in an increasingly responsible supervisory and/or administrative position is required. A master’s degree in Library and Information Science granted by an approved college or university is required and substantial experience in public service is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess comfort with technology and its role in libraries, strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication skills, energy and enthusiasm, strong support of intellectual freedom, an innovative spirit, and the ability to coalesce the organization around a shared vision. I have a partial box of Demco labels of each 1st Reading Level (teal), 2 nd Reading Level (red), 3rd Reading Level (mustard yellow), and 4th Reading level (royal blue).
Their SKU brings up these https://www.demco.com/demco-reg-reading-level-labels-1st ; though they’re not the same, they are similar. Attached is a photo, for those who can see attachments.
