Hello All,

I recently started the WebJunction series regarding handling Climate Change at the library. I highly recommend checking in on this webinar series if you haven’t already. It’s free and you can watch the first two webinars recordings, including Sustainability 101 (https://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/sustainability-101.html)\

I am looking for programming ideas that can align with Sustainability and Climate Change topics, but I am having trouble finding out where to start. As the Adult Programmer at the library, I am comfortable in facilitating certain programs, but really wish to have experts talking about the subjects at hand.

If any area libraries have had presentations/programs on topics that relate to this and could suggest presenters or themes, it would be very helpful.

Our library is located just north of Kalamazoo on the west side of the state. We like to have presentations in-person, as we do not get a lot of attendees for Zoom/Live Stream programs (I do see the irony in having someone travel to talk about climate change, but getting the information out is important, so…)

Thanks so much!

Anna,
We hosted Chris Edwards and his climate talk this past May and he is excellent! His presentation offers great information that is accessible to non climate scientists and he is very personable and easy to work with.

His website is www.weatherchris.com , email is rfrhomes@live.com and you can find his talk on youtube if you want to preview his presentation. https://youtu.be/vzaBSK4lwxs?feature=shared

Chris is based in metro Detroit and we are up in Northport - so we reached out to other local libraries to schedule him around the same time so he had more than one reason to make the trip north. And we had a great turn out! We highly recommend him.

Thank you,
Julie

This is an oldie but a goodie, def features a little girl going to bed. I haven't read it but parents commenting  say it's "a favorite, simple and quick to read, cozy feeling"  etc. Little Golden Book

Hello all!

We have a reference question here at Romulus Public Library that has stumped me. The patron is looking for a book she read to her now 15 year old daughter when she was little. She remembers it as a book about a little girl saying good night to objects in her room, she specifically remembers her saying good night to socks. It is explicitly NOT Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, and we have determined it is also not Goodnight, Goodnight, Sleepyhead by Ruth Krause or Bedtime, Nelly by Jan Barger.

If anyone knows what book this might be, please help us out!

Thanks in advance!

The Grand Ledge Area District Library is situated on ancestral, traditional and contemporary lands of the Anishinaabeg – Three Fires Confederacy of Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi peoples-- land ceded in the 1819 Treaty of Saginaw. For more information, see the article from Central Michigan University Library:https://blogs.cmich.edu/library/2019/11/26/the-1819-treaty-of-saginaw/#:~:text=In%20the%201819%20treaty%2C%20the,living%20on%20the%20ceded%20territory.

Here's another to consider-- read it to my kids 20 or so years ago. Little girl says a goodnight blessing for the parts of her life (family, milk and bread, etc), including her shoes, (not socks though...)

Twenty-five years ago, there was  one working out of Portage/Kalamazoo area. I haven't lived there in a long time, maybe one of those libraries has a name for you?

Last call, other requests have fell through.  We need this out of our library.  It is large and would take a mini-van or truck to haul.  If there is no interest, it will be taken to Goodwill or St. Vincents which is an already long drive for us.

We have had it in our library for a few years and shared with our branches but we need to make room and would like it to go to a good home.  There is some furniture which is included.  It does need a table to sit on (current table is also available) and will need a couple of people to lift and carry.  Again van or truck would work better.  Pickup only – Grand Lake Library, 18132 Lake Esau Highway, Presque Isle.
