Summary - This webinar will review the pending amendments to the Library Privacy Act, as well as other legal issues surrounding information and data privacy for public libraries.
Description - Privacy is an important issue for libraries. In addition to privacy laws governing patron records and reading histories, libraries must grapple with data privacy, employee
privacy and even privacy of a patron's reference inquiries.
Attendees will:
1) Obtain information on the Michigan Library Privacy Act, including pending legislative changes and how those changes might change libraries’ ability to report crimes.
2) Learn about what the privacy act requires of libraries
3) Learn tips on how to maintain a patron's privacy while providing library services
