
YOUTH SERVICES ASSISTANT HENIKA DISTRICT LIBRARY Do you love weaving a tale of a faraway place? Do you brag about your awesome video game achievements? SCHEDULE: 24-28 hours per week 11:30 am – 8:00 pm Mondays, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Tuesdays, 9:30 am – 6:00 pm Thursdays, and 8:30 am – 1:00 pm the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month STARTING PAY: $14.00/hr DUTIES: * Provides active and passive programs for library patrons ages 0-18. Duties include, but are not limited to: planning, presenting and evaluating programs; and tracking statistics. * Plans, organizes, implements, supervises and evaluates services to library patrons ages 0-18. * Fosters a library environment that is inclusive and accepting of family and tween/teen patrons. * Engages regularly and positively with family patrons. * Involves teen/tween patrons in planning and implementing services for their age group. Helps create and maintain a teen/tween advisory board to execute this. * Assists with developing, maintaining, and weeding youth collections. * Continuously works to develop and improve knowledge of youth materials. * Assists in creating and executing timely and well-rounded material displays/bookmarks for the youth area to boost circulation. * Helps Youth Services Supervisor generate monthly report for review for the Director and the Library Board. * Collaborates with schools and community agencies. Promotes, publicizes and represents programs, services, and the library to the community and local agencies in cooperation with other library departments. * Provides readers' advisory, reference and information services. Duties include, but are not limited to: receiving and answering of questions regarding collections, library services and policies; interpreting patron needs and conducting research necessary to obtain sources of information; obtaining copies of information through inter and intra-library loans; and assisting patrons in the use of subject specialty materials. * Enforces library policies and procedures as needed. * Attends and participates in staff meetings. * Participates in the development and implementation of goals, action plans, policies and procedures. * Works with library administration to seek supplementary funding to enhance library services, including local, state, and federal grants. * Provides circulation services as operations require. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: * High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred * Experience working with children or teens required. * Experience working in a library preferred. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and iPad applications. * Basic mathematical skills necessary for routine calculations. * Ability to work with general supervision and adhere to established policies and procedures. * Interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with staff and patrons in an effective and courteous manner. * Ability to retrieve library materials from shelves upon patron or staff request. * Ability to answer both telephone and in-person customer inquiries effectively. * Ability to push/pull fully loaded book carts, retrieve or place materials above shoulder or below knee level, and transport materials and delivery bags weighing up to 40 pounds, with reasonable accommodations. * Ability to operate a variety of equipment including cash register, fax, and copy machines. * Valid driver’s license and available transportation for travel to workshops and library-related meetings.
