The District was established in 1966 by the Arapahoe County Commissioners and the Deer Trail School Board, but is an independent taxing jurisdiction, governed by an appointed Board of Trustees. The Executive Director is responsible for planning, developing, directing, and leading all operations and activities of the Library District; recommending, implementing and administering policy in pursuit of the Library's vision, values, and mission <http://arapahoelibraries.org/mission> ; and providing administrative support to the Board of Trustees. Additional responsibilities include: assuring a program of service that meets the needs of District customers and community members; representing the Library District to local governments, civic and community organizations, professional associations and the general public; accomplishing short-term and long-range planning; and implementing and managing the budget and other resources using sound business practices to assure the effective and efficient use of tax-supported resources. A Master's Degree in Library Science and three years of progressively responsible senior management experience-including specific experience with public library organization and operations are preferred; or any combination of relevant, equivalent education and experience. Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include: experience developing and administering budgets; strong oral and written communication skills; customer focus and excellent public relations skills and the ability to build trust and effective partnerships; a commitment to developing others, facilitating change, building successful teams and leading through vision and values; business acumen and strategic decision making ability. Prior experience with a multi-branch system and success in reporting to a governing board are highly desirable. Compensation. The position offers a hiring salary range of $130,000 - $150,000 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package.
