Traverse
City author Jerry Dennis will appear
at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library on
Thursday, September
22nd at 7:00 pm. Written on
the Water: A Retrospective on 30 years of writing about the
Great Lakes,
canoeing, fishing, natural history, and northern Michigan
will offer a
glimpse into the author’s life as an independent writer in
Northern Michigan.
Dennis
is internationally acclaimed for his
books about nature and the outdoors. He most recently spoke at
the Library
during TEDxALpenaPublicLibraryLive. His book The Living Great Lakes: Searching for the Heart of
the Inland Seas has
been a national and regional bestseller and is taught in
numerous universities
and colleges across the region. His other books include The Windward Shore, A Place
on the Water, The
River Home, It’s
Raining Frogs and Fishes, The Bird in the Waterfall,
From a Wooden Canoe,
Canoeing Michigan Rivers,
and, most
recently A Walk In the
Animal Kingdom.
Jerry’s essays and short fiction have appeared in publications
as varied as The
New York Times, Audubon, Smithsonian, Field and Stream,
American Way, and
Michigan Quarterly Review.
