If you’ve been following the news at the Capitol, you know this week has been a doozy - Lame Duck is always a bit unpredictable but this is turning out to be a dramatic week in Michigan politics. The fate of the Freedom to Read Legislation hangs in the balance. There are a lot of factors out of our control, but we are doing everything we can to see this through and we need your help.

 

Please stick with us. Please call your Senator this morning – every phone call can help emphasize how important this legislation is and could make the difference.

URGENT: Call Your Senator NOW, RIGHT NOW and Urge Them to Support the Freedom to Read Acts

 

The Freedom to Read Legislation has not yet received a vote in the Senate, BUT hope is not lost, and we are continuing to do everything we can to see this through. BUT TODAY IS THE DAY!

 

Please stick with us. We need you to call your Senator immediately and stress the importance of the legislation. (Phone numbers and a script can be found here.)

 

The bills are currently sitting in the Senate Committee on Government Operations. We need Senator Sam Singh to discharge the bills from committee and release them to the floor for a vote. At this point, it’s unclear if they will schedule additional session days.

 

It's not over till it’s over. We cannot stress enough how important it is to call your Senator’s office as soon as possible this morning and urge them to support this legislation. Emphasize how important this legislation is to protecting the freedom to read and supporting libraries and library staff. Your advocacy could make the difference and get this legislation across the finish line.
