Are you interested in makerspaces and the maker culture? Are you wondering how this might impact your library? Are you wondering what makerspaces *are? *Are you interested in participating in a keynote session with an engaging, dynamic, and *very *well-traveled expert? If so, don't miss Kristin Fontichiaro, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan's School of Information, speak on "Building Makerspace Culture in Libraries" at MLA's upcoming Technologies & Trends Workshop on Friday, May 16 at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Ms. Fontichiaro has presented on makerspaces and maker culture all over the world; in this session, she'll share why makerspaces mean more than 3D printers. They offer libraries and librarians new venues through which to build community, develop patron capacity, and empower creative expression. In this talk, questions to consider in launching a makerspace will be explored, and possible activities and equipment will be discussed. Most importantly, the session will talk about infusing library-centered makerspaces with a maker *culture *that celebrates trial-and-error, process, and lifelong learning.
