Join Jane Bentley Turo, Senior Reference Librarian at the New York State Library, for an informative look at the New York State Library’s
local history and genealogy resources. This webinar will highlight collections relevant to family research, including published genealogies; newsletters and journals from genealogical societies; local histories of New York State regions, cities, and towns;
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) resources specific to New York; historical newspapers; city directories; and family history research databases. Attendees will learn about the New York State Library’s family history collections, how to access library
resources, and tips for researching New York ancestors. This program is ideal for genealogists, local historians, or anyone interested in exploring their New York roots.
The New York State Library's Regent Joseph E. Bowman Jr. Research Library, established in 1818, collects, preserves and provides access
to materials that support the work of New York State government. The Library's collections, numbering over 20 million items, are widely used by New York State employees, New York State residents and researchers from around the world.

will reopen on Monday, June 22, 2026. All reference questions and library card applications will be processed during the week after reopening.

2025-2026 Michigan Author Award recipient, Daniels will also be discussing his work
An Ignorance of Trees: A Memoir in Essays as part of the
2026 Michigan Notable Books Author Tour.
An Ignorance of Trees was recognized as one of 20 selections on the
2026 Michigan Notable Books list.

Every year, a list of books representing the literary heritage of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and US territories is distributed
by the Library
of Congress’s Center for the Book during the National
Book Festival. Books are selected by the local Center for the Book affiliate, with titles for both children and adults. Books may be written by authors from the state, take place in the state, or celebrate the state’s culture and heritage.
The 2026 National Book Festival is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Wahsington
DC. Library of Michigan staff will be at the event representing Michigan. More information will become available as we get closer to the event. Visit the

a list of previous years items representing Michigan on the Great Reads from Great Places list.
