Thanks for that information, Clare! And thanks for input from everyone else; but this gives pause for thought. Happy holidays, All! --- _Susan Riegler_ Susan Riegler, Director Alden District Library 231/331-4318 On 2025-12-16 2:32 pm, Membiela, Clare (MDE) wrote:
Hello Susan:
I would strongly encourage that you reach out to the library's attorney for advice before making this decision. There are numerous issues to consider, including First Amendment (if using to post on Social Media), FOIA (government device vs personal device - there have been recent lawsuits discussing the impact of FOIA on municipal officials using municipal subsidized or purchased devices or plans), Open Meetings Act, and expenditure of public funds issues that should be carefully considered, as well as new policies for the use of government-owned devices. There have been recent municipal lawsuits involving the use of government supplied or subsidized devices or phone plans. Your attorney can help you weigh the risks and benefits and make the best decision for your library.
I hope this is helpful!
Sincerely,
Clare

CAUTION: This is an External email. Please send suspicious emails to abuse@michigan.gov
Hello all,
We are a very small Class 1 library. Several vendors using two-part authentication require listing a mobile phone number with them, so I've had to use my personal phone number for a few.
GoDaddy will only let me change a mobile number, not delete it, even though my two methods of confirmation are now email and the Google authenticator app.
Do you have a library mobile phone plan? If so, do you recommend it, especially for one line?
And/or, do your trustees have mobile phones supplied by the library?
Thanks in advance,
--
