Youth Services Coordinator

 
The Dowagiac District Library is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to provide top-notch programming and library services to youth of all ages.  A bachelor’s degree or higher is required and recent MLS/MLIS graduates are encouraged to apply.
 
 
 
Job Description:
 
Under the supervision of the Library Director, performs professional library work related to:

·       Planning, organizing, and executing current library programs and creating new programs designed for children ages birth through grade twelve.
·       Performing bi-weekly storytimes based on Every Child Ready to Read’s “five practices” of sing-talk-read-write-play.
·       Designing and implementing an 8-week Summer Reading Program for children and teens.
·       Responsible for developing STEAM-related activities in the library Makerspace.
·       Running a weekly Game Day program for teens using the library’s X-box.
·       Creating a seasonal newsletter highlighting library programs.
·       Posting to the library’s social media and website; creating flyers for advertising; submitting press releases on programs to local media outlets.
·       Assisting patrons in the selection and use of library materials and electronic resources.
·       Developing and maintaining library collections within the Youth Services Department for children and teens.  Purchasing supplies for youth programs and the Makerspace.
·       Performing outreach to area schools, daycares, and others to promote the Library.  Establishing relationships with community partners.
·       Participating in continuing education opportunities, including attending conferences and meetings.
·       Processing children’s materials for the collections.
·       Performing other duties as assigned.
 
 

Job Requirements:
 
·       Requires a bachelor’s degree and experience working with children and teens.
·       Strong knowledge of children’s fiction and nonfiction, including graphic novels.
·       Experience with eBooks, tablets, and other current technologies.
·       Excellent oral and written communication skills.
·       Self-motivated and creative.
·       Strong organizational skills.
 
 
 
Hours: 40 hours per week, including two Saturdays a month and one evening a week.
 
Salary: $27,000-$30,000/yr. depending on experience.  Benefits include 80% Blue Cross health/dental/vision insurance, MERS defined benefit retirement (10-yr. vesting), and paid time off.
