My board passed the KDL-based Pandemic Policy, but asked a very pertinent question regarding what comes during and after a pandemic to the collections. How do you clean materials returned by those that have contracted the virus--and do we need to be proactive now and use some method of cleaning books or waiting? If we're being told to use our own pens to sign things, does that mean that slick book covers and DVDs might be a source of infection. >From the reports I've read, some are saying the virus can live on these surfaces for up to 48 hours--and you cannot clean these items with bleach or spray cleaners. I've not seen any conversations regarding this phase of a Pandemic for libraries.
