We struggle with this too-- and the staff hours is definitely a guideline. We try to program for events (Halloween, Christmas, SRP, March is Reading Month, etc.), to answer community demands,(crafts, science for kids, adult speakers), more-or-less- by categories: Weekly: 1 storytime in-house, and 1 off-site minimum
Monthly: 2 take-home craft kits, plus 2 kids craft/activity, plus 2 adult, plus 1- gaming and 1 bookclub.
Quarterly: 1 STREAM event (minimum), plus community events tie-ins
Yearly: SRP, Banned Book, Library Card, Pride, Juneteenth, etc.
Special: Eclipse, Elections, Parades, Farmers Markets,  etc.

This is never as firm as we'd like it, but....

Hi all,

Do you have a method for figuring out how many programs you are targeting in a certain period of time?  We’re having a cheerful(ish) debate on our staff regarding how much programming is too much… and it seems to me that this all falls back on how many staff hours we have to devote to programming.

Just wondering if anyone has a good ‘rule of thumb’ with regard to this 😊

Thanks,

Andrea
